Position:  Quality and Safety Coordinator; Infection Prevention and Control

Position Summary
As a member of the infection prevention and control (IPAC) team the incumbent will be responsible for performing activities that support the strategic goals and objectives of the IPAC program. This temporary full time position is for one year to enhance the programs ability to attend to a significant volume of planned facility design, construction and renovation projects, in addition to other key priorities. The ideal candidate will have experience in supporting health care design and construction activities. The IPAC team currently includes a 0.6 FTE Medical Director (physician), 1.0 FTE Manager / ICP, a 1.0 FTE ICP and a 0.6 FTE Administrative Assistant

Job Description:

  • Participate in infection control risk assessment and oversight related to facility design, construction, renovation and maintenance.
  • Conduct audit activities using defined criteria, monitor and report on compliance and collaborate with clinical and/support services teams to develop and implement quality improvement strategies.
  • Develop, coordinate and perform surveillance activities and prepare regular reports.
  • Perform active surveillance for, and timely reporting of, reportable communicable diseases to the Medical Officer of Health / Public Health Unit.
  • Investigate, manage, and report sentinel infection control events (e.g. infectious disease outbreaks). This includes the development of formal reports, performance of apparent cause analysis and provision of written recommendations to prevent recurrences.
  • Act as a resource for staff and physicians at CHEO and OCTC, and occasionally with external partners, on infection prevention and control issues. This also includes membership / participation on various CHEO Committees and working groups as required.
  • Provide just in time and formal education of staff, physicians, students, and agency staff regarding current infection prevention and control standards / requirements (such as hand hygiene, use of personal protective equipment, etc.).
  • Support bed utilization by monitoring and managing patient isolation in collaboration with the health care team.
  • Participate in infection control research and professional development activities.

Qualifications
  • Police Record Check (PRC) (Essential)
  • Degree in relevant health science discipline and current registration with relevant professional college (Essential)
  • Current registration with the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC) (Essential)
  • Minimum of three years experience as a health professional in a hospital setting (Essential)
  • Minimum of three years IPAC experience in a health care setting (Preferred)
  • Ability to analyze and problem-solve complex issues and provide guidance to others (Essential)
  • Proven leadership, team building and collaborative communication skills (Essential)
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple projects and priorities (Essential)
  • Ability to develop and deliver educational programs/ materials geared to all categories of health care provider (Essential)
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office (Power Point, Word, Excel, Outlook, database applications, etc.) (Essential)
  • Working knowledge of applicable occupational health and safety legislation; general knowledge of corporate/departmental policies and procedures related to health and safety (Preferred)
  • Experience with program development and project management. (Preferred)
  • Completion of Canadian Standards Association training on Infection Control during construction, renovation and maintenance of health care facilities. (Preferred)
  • Bilingualism (English and French) (Preferred)



Salary:  $33.02 to $40.13 / hour

Terms of Employment:  Temporary (until March 2019) Part Time (0.5)
