Share Your Story, A Community-Led Health Research Project

The Ottawa Aboriginal Coalition is collaborating with the Wabano Centre for Aboriginal Health to launch the "Share Your Story" Research Project. Our goal is to collect stories from First Nations, Inuit, and Métis individuals in Ottawa and surrounding areas, on their experience accessing primary health care.

Purpose of the Research Project
The goal of the project is to collect experiences of Indigenous-specific racism and discrimination in the health care system, and to explore what culturally competent care is. The OAC will transfer the findings into an educational video resource that will include recommendations. These resources will help engage in conversations with health care institutions to inform quality indicators and unique institutional pathways to address systemic racism. With your support and time, we can advocate for and improve access to culturally safe health services for Indigenous peoples in this region.

How can you help?
We are asking your help in circulating this advertisement widely (to your friends, colleagues, family members, etc.)

Attached, please find the poster that can be printed and/circulated among Indigenous or non-Indigenous individuals who have either experienced discrimination in health care first hand or witnessed an Indigenous person being treated unfairly.

Along with the poster, we've created a short video that can be posted on your websites and/or Facebook page.
Link to video: https://youtu.be/B71YR9Q09_U ; it also hyperlinked in the text.

We need your support in promoting this study! Community members who are willing to share their story will be compensated for their time with a $25 gift card.

We appreciate your support,
SYS Research Team
